Tough Decisions for Women with Breast Cancer in Regional Australia

Road to Gundagai from JuneeAn interesting article was recently published by ABC News and written by Dayna Perrin-Smith, entitled “Travelling for treatment: breast cancer in regional Australia“.

The article discusses how Australian women who are diagnosed with breast cancer often will have to face tough decisions, but this is especially difficult for those who are from regional parts of Australia as they have to travel long distances for treatment.

The most intriguing aspect of the article is that the writer, Dayna, was actually diagnosed with breast cancer herself. She therefore provides first hand viewpoints and experiences. The most difficult part of being diagnosed was that it led to a number of logistical issues for herself and her family as she would often have to travel for hours to receive treatment, and then at one stage she even had to relocate her family and her home in order to get radiotherapy.
