July is Eye Health Awareness Month in Australia otherwise known as ‘JulEYE’. At PeoplePledge, we want to celebrate and acknowledge Eye Health Awareness Month this week at the PeoplePledge blog.
What is Eye Health Awareness Month?
Eye Health Awareness Month is the month of the year to raise community awareness of eye health issues in Australia. Thousands of Australians suffer from a range of eye diseases and infections. In July, we highlight most common eye diseases and problems in order to help educate and create awareness of prevention for these diseases.
Why is Eye Health Awareness Month Important?
75% of vision loss is preventable or treatable if detected early enough, yet every 65 minutes an Australian loses part or all of their vision.
In Australia alone, there are 200,000 individuals who have poor to no eyesight. In some cases, these Australians who have lost their eye sight could of been prevented when detected early or treated to reduce the damage. Education on eye health and eye care is important. Many Australians who cannot afford proper eye health care or treatment for eye diseases and/or infections, could prevent further damage by being educated and aware of how to care for your eyes.
