callum’S STORY

Michelle and Terry Postlethwaite’s son Callum (six years old on 11/11/14) was diagnosed with Burkitt’s Lymphoma in January 2014.

Michelle and Terry Postlethwaite’s son Callum (six years old on 11/11/14) was diagnosed with Burkitt’s Lymphoma in January 2014.

Callum has endured months of chemotherapy, a bone marrow transplant from his younger sister followed by months of isolation.

Callum was well enough to start school via Skype in October, but now the family have been dealt a cruel blow; a tumour has been found in Callum’s brain and if left untreated he has been given weeks to live.

Callum’s doctor has found a trial in America that may help Callum.

The family have decided to restart treatment again in the hope that Callum will be well enough and selected for the trial.

Friends and colleagues would like to raise funds to assist Michelle and her family through this difficult time. Money raised will go towards supporting the family in many ways including providing an amazing Christmas and giving hope that the funds will be there if Callum is selected to take part in the trial in the USA.

Just an update…
The Postlethwaite family have received wonderful news with Callum being accepted into the trial in Washington and treatment likely to start as early as January 5th with the family leaving around Dec 22nd.

Thank-you for your continuing support

The possibility of travelling to the USA for treatment is now not possible. Callum’s condition has deteriorated significantly over the past few days and the amount of travel would not be possible. Just travelling to the children’s hospital is extremely difficult and taxing for him. The leukemia around his brain has spread despite all of the treatment. Callum is now in the care of the palliative care team through the children’s hospital and we are attempting to make him as comfortable as possible at home.

An announcement:

As Callum’s condition has deteriorated significantly over the past few days and he is therefore unable to travel to the USA for treatment, the Postlethwaite family have asked that Callum’s Pledge Page cease collecting funds. On behalf of the Postlethwaite family, friends and colleagues we would like to sincerely thank you all for your generous support. It took only two weeks to raise nearly $9,000 from 145 pledgers which shows how much love surrounds this family. We would also like to thank PeoplePledge for providing a suitable platform to raise funds for Callum, and for their kindness, support and understanding. This is devastating news and we ask that the family’s decision to close the page at this time be respected. The funds will go towards keeping Callum comfortable whilst in palliative care or to be used at the discretion of the Postlethwaite family.

31 December, 2014

After fighting for 11 months Callum passed away peacefully Monday night 29/12/14 surrounded by family and friends at home. The Postlethwaite family wish to thank everyone for their love and support. The Postlethwaite family ask that any further donations be directed to the Leukemia Foundation.
